Christine M. Sykora

Practice Area Overview

Christine Sykora is a founding partner of Sykora & Karras, Ltd., a general practice law firm dedicated to the personal and efficient counseling of clients in the greater Chicagoland area.  Combining business, private equity, tax and legal experience, Christine strives to be the “one-stop-shop” for any corporation’s needs. 

Work Experience

Prior to forming Sykora & Karras, Ltd., Christine worked as a solo practitioner with a client base focused on corporate formation, transactions, healthcare law, and estate planning.  Her corporate negotiations include a $56 million dollar service agreement with Advanced Emergency Specialists, Ltd., as well as dozens of high-income employment contracts. 

Education Background

Christine received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.  Also while at Wesleyan, Christine assisted in the creation and implementation of the IWU Action Research Center, an institute coordinating research projects undertaken by IWU students, faculty, and staff in partnership with groups in the larger Central Illinois community.  She also volunteered as a member with Alpha Phi Omega.

Christine received her Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law after focusing her studies on corporate and tax law.

Christine is a member of the following organizations: DuPage County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Despina D. Karrras

Practice Area Overview

Despina Karras is a founding partner of Sykora & Karras and concentrates in the areas of family law, estate planning and general civil litigation.  On the domestic relations side, Despina handles cases involving divorce, child custody and support, adoption and pre and post nuptial agreements.  Despina also handles estate planning matters including drafting wills, health care directives and probate matters.

Work Experience

Prior to forming Sykora & Karras, Despina served as trial counsel in various cases involving employment law, breach of contract, negligence and products liability matters. 

Education and Background

Despina obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, where she majored in Political Science.  After college, Despina spent a year working at Kirkland & Ellis and a year at a prominent think tank in Washington D.C. prior to returning to Chicago for law school.  Despina received her Juris Doctorate degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law where she completed multiple courses in family law, trial advocacy and advanced evidence. 

Despina is active in the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, Hellenic Bar Association, Federalist Society, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
